Sabrina Brooks received her master’s degree in Experimental Psychology from California State University, Fresno (2023) and her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California State University, Channel Islands (2021). She has been working with psychophysiological research since 2019, with a focus in sleep, stress, and heart rate variability.
Her thesis, “The Effects of Daily Life Stress, Sleep Quality, and Sleep Variance in Undergraduates,” analyzed data from over 600 Fresno State students to identify impairments in their work-life-school balance. Her results reflected the concerns of many other research studies: college-aged students are notoriously poor sleepers, both in terms of sleep quality and duration. However, unique to her study, she also researched the impact that the variation in sleep and wake times can have on the overall well-being of these students. It was discovered that greater variation in bed times and total hours of sleep per night were highly correlated with poorer overall sleep quality and greater levels of stress.
Sabrina Brooks hopes to continue working in the research field, with the possibility of continuing her graduate education journey in a PhD program that includes sleep research.
